Sharon Winton's love of music and devotion to excellence are clearly reflected in her compelling performances and dedicated teaching
manner. She has performed throughout the United States and Europe as a soloist, chamber artist and orchestral and wind ensemble musician
with “The President’s Own” United States Marine Band. Perfomaning in over 140 concerts annually for four U.S. presidents, numerous
heads of state and dozens of foreign dignateires. As a founding member of the Lark Chamber Players she has performed with them in
recitals at the Phillips Collection, the Panamanian and Costa Rican Embassies, and numerous other appearances throughout the Washington,
D.C. area. Sharon Winton has taught at Indiana University, The Maryland Conservatory of Music, and most recently as Visiting Assistant
Professor of Flute at Miami University (Ohio).
Active as a chamber musician, Winton's knowledge and performance skills were specifically
requested by President Clinton's administration to perform woodwind quintets, flute & harp, and flute trio (flute, violin and
cello) at The White House and for numerous state functions. These functions have included the anniversary of such notable organiziations
as the United Nations and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). Winton chamber music performances have taken place at such
halls as the Metropolitan Museum of Art-New York City, National Academy of Sciences, the Coolidge Auditorium of the Library of Congress,
the Masonic Temple-Alexandria, VA, the Phillips Collection, to name a few. Her audiences have included heads of state, military leaders,
school children, and the general public. Earning her Performer's Certificate, Bachelor and Master's in Music degrees from Indiana
University, Sharon went on to earn a Doctorate in Musical Arts from The Catholic University of America. In addition to being a featured
soloist with “The President’s Own” United States Marine Band, Dr. Winton has soloed with the Milwaukee Symphony, Madison Symphony
and performs with the Chesapeake Symphony in their acclaimed River City Summer Concert Series. She has been featured at the National
Flute Association's Annual Conventions winning the National Flute Association Convention Performer's Competition (2004), performing
(2004, 2007, 2009), presenting lectures (2007) and on panel discussions (2007). Further presentations have included a lecture/recital
at the National Conference of the College Music Society in Quebec City Quebec, Canada, and presenting master classes at Muskingham
College, Ohio State University, West Virginia University, Northern Arizona State University, University of North Carolina-Wilmington
and Miami University.Dr. Winton's articles have been published by Flute Talk magazine, Feb 2008 "Establishing a Performing ensemble",
Dec 2006: "Teaching Is An Art", and Oct 2004: "Three's Not A Crowd", and the Winter 2007 issue of The Flutist's Quarterly “The Unaccompanied
Flute Works of Andre Jolivet". The Flutist's Quarterly has carried articles she has written on their online publication "Convention
Chronicles". Active in the Music Teacher's National Association, she has participated on performances and panel discussions with this
organization. In addition to performing Dr. Winton maintains an active private studio.
